WARNING!

We like to have a good time. If you don’t, or if you take yourself too seriously, there are other salons where you would be more comfortable. We are a relaxed, creative, friendly place to spend time. We also happen to do great hair. If that doesn’t sound appealing to you, DON’T COME!

There are some very important things to consider when choosing a salon besides Location, Budget, Schedule & Skill.
Many people think that all they want is a good haircut or some good color at a price that fits their budget, in a convenient location that is open the hours they are available and has qualified staff. Let us tell you why that is only a small part of the equation. The things that makes a salon right or wrong for you is the Salon Experience.

Different people are looking for different things in a salon experience.

What you want may not be the same thing your neighbor wants.

Some people want a quiet, tranquil retreat from the stress of their daily world. They need the sound of trickling waterfalls, and for everyone to speak in quiet, soothing tones. There are many lovely spa/salons that are great for such desires. We visit spas for massage and body treatments ourselves. They are lovely places.

Some people want the newest, hippest, cutting edge styles and experiences. A funkier salon is a better place for that. The staff will probably have lots of tattoos and piercings, and the music will be very cool. That could be a lot of fun; unless the young, cool people make you feel old and square.

Some people see a haircut as a commodity and just want to get one at the very moment they think about it. They don’t care if they have had a cut by the same person before or not, it just needs to be shorter. They need a place where there is always someone available. These places usually serve clients on a walk-in basis.

Some people want the comfort of a relationship with their hairdresser so that they don’t have to explain themselves from scratch every time. They expect quality work, but don’t want the hectic pace of a large salon. They just want to be themselves. These are the clients who can relax because when they are at the salon they don’t have to impress anyone. They don’t have to worry about dressing up and doing their hair to go there. These are the clients most likely to be happy at our salon. They can, as one client happily claims, wear their pajamas and cuss.
Choosing a salon and a hairdresser is a lot like dating.
You have to be a good match. It is unreasonable to think that you would hit it off with everyone you ever meet. Some people are a better match than others. A relationships with someone who isn’t a good match is unpleasant at best and arduous at worst. You want to feel comfortable enough with your relationship that you can be the real you.

We are good at what we do. We are well educated.

We are well respected in our community.

(Other salons often refer clients to us.)

We actually LOVE our jobs (and our clients)!

Azarra has been around since 1991. In the early years, we tried to please everybody. We wanted every client we could get our hands on. But at staff meetings, the same issues came up every time. “We’re being too loud. Everyone is talking to everyone else, the clients are all talking to each other, it’s just too much.” So we would try to keep it down. But a funny thing happened. It seems the bulk of the clients liked it better when we were more playful and irreverent.

So, we evolved.

The staff who wanted a quieter “more professional” salon experience found places that were more to their liking and the clients who shared those views went with them or found other salons. Hallelujah! Imagine the freedom of deciding that’s it’s OK to be yourself. Imagine learning that even though everybody won’t love you no matter how hard you try, there are plenty of people who love you just the way you are!

The clients who stayed are our biggest cheerleaders. They will tell you that we are THEIR SALON. Many of our clients have been with us for over a decade, some closer to two decades. It is not uncommon for clients to run into people they know during their visits with us. Neither is it uncommon for one client to enthusiastically help another select the perfect new hair spray, facial mask or hair color. Some clients schedule their appointments together and make an evening of it. We are a community.

You see, if you don’t like us,

you won’t be happy with the work we do.

That’s human nature. Your perception colors your reality. So, if you don’t want your service providers to have fun while they are at work, or you don’t want to be a part of a community of interesting people: call another salon! If you need a referral to a salon that might better meet your needs, email info@azarra.com and we will happily give you some names to try. We know and have worked with many of the top hairdressers in Tacoma, and we know they do great work. The best reason to come see us, instead of them, is that you enjoy the experience of spending time in our salon.
If you decide to come hang out with us, bring your sense of humor and leave your worries at the door. You might just love it.

Very passive-aggressive and bitter. Bitchy and not in a good way. This reads like nails screeching on a chalkboard.
    Pissy, bitchy, bitter, passive-aggressive.

  2. Tina Michaels Says:

Yikes, is this an invitation or a warning? Someone sounds very angry. I would pass on this place.

  3. Trey Ludington Says:

Hey, if it’s so fun and laid back, why all the dark, brooding? If something is fun, it just is, you don’t have to sell fun. There are deep problems under the surface here; at least that’s what I gather from this blatant diatribe of ‘go somewhere if we’re not fun enough’. If this is advertising, then it’s not serving its purpose–AS THIS JUST COMES OFF DOWNRIGHT RUDE.

  4. Lauren Wolf Says:

LOL! OMG this is so hilarious–thanks for sharing with group. When a writing starts with “warning” you know its not going to be a good thing. maybe the shop keeper is just having a bad day or a bad life is probably more like it.

Thank you so much for your comments! We don’t usually get to hear from the people who don’t like our message (because they don’t come!) We only get to hear from the people who read it and find something in it that resonates with them (or come anyway, despite it!)
One thing you can be sure, in a crowded market where it seems there are unlimited choices of salons, this message has been highly effective at helping the right clients find us. If you read this and come anyway, you are more likely to convert to a permanent client than someone who chooses us randomly.
In the beauty industry, small companies are the norm rather than the exception and every salon owner has a chance to create their own world. This world works for us. We know it wouldn’t work for everyone!

  6. Aura Mae, I’d like to share an idea for salon owners who are looking to supplement shop income by selling items such as luxury creams and lotions, handmade soaps, etc., perhaps even jewelry. Most salon owners are way to busy to spare the time to go and search these items out. Finding them at wholesale prices can be time-consuming, and buying items without sampling them first can be risky. Boutique Boxes (http://www.boutiqueboxes.com) solves both of these problems. For $24.95 (shipping included in price) you can receive a sample box filled with samples of the items listed above and more. You will receive contact information for the supplier of each item. All suppliers participating in the Boutique Boxes are offering products at wholesale to small business owners. You can get these samples for far less than the cost of ordering them separately, even if all you had to pay was postage. You will also have the security of having seen the actual product before buying for your salon. Please encourage your readers to visit us and find out more. Thanks!

Aura Mae….Your salon sounds alot like our salon. We opened in 1989 and have lots of fun as well. You have to be openminded and FUN to be able to keep up with the pase.
Wine is a fun thing here also. We share music choices, restaurants and neat shops around town. Most of our clients have been coming for 5-18 years…really!!!! Some we have watched grow up and they actually drive themselves now. Anyway….thanks for the fun reading!!

  8. Faith Says:

I love Aura, she keeps me coming back and takes good care of me and my husband. I also know she will be honest with me if a cut or color would look like crap. That kind of honesty is priceless!

  9. Kris Says:

Gee, common folk just hate it when their stylist is smarter than they are. Apparently you need to dumb it down a little bit Aura. 🙂

I am an account executive for a huge credit card transaction processing co. We can set up each independent contractor/or employee with their own merchant account. Our machines can hold up to 15 accounts on it. They will have a code that access their account. Once the card is swiped the money goes immediatly in their account.

We have the lowest rates in the industry, we guarantee if we cannot beat a competitor rate we will give you $500. We operate in all 50 states. We have no hidden fees. Also we have the best customer service in the nation 3 years in a row by INC magazine.

The company is United Bank Card. We are the 6th fastest growing in the nation, and do about $10 billion dollars in processing yearly.

If you are interested in lowering your rates, better customer service, give me a call at 1800 644 0296 ext 825.
